Genetically modified fluorescent sheep

A group of scientists Uruguayan, in partnership with the Institut Pasteur of Montevideo,  announced Wednesday, the birth of  genetically modified  phosphorescent sheep  . “Gene transfer on this species was not available in Latin America and this success is raising Uruguay to the highest international scientific standards,”   declared,  in a joint statement the Institute of Animal Reproduction Uruguay (IRAUy) and the Pasteur Institute……

” Born in October 2012 at the IRAUy, the animals developed normally, without showing any differences with their non-transgenic counterparts,” said Alejo Menchaca, President of the Institute. Their only visible specificity is to be phosphorescent when placed under ultra-violet light, due to the introduction of a jellyfish gene in their DNA……More in French  by AFP
